Whitelist Withdrawal Addresses

Easy to do, but often overlooked, whitelisting your Celsius withdrawal addresses is key to a smooth experience.

One of our repeated recommendations to Celsians is to whitelist withdrawal addresses as soon as you create your account and start depositing crypto assets. This alleviates a lot of headaches further down the road when you want to withdraw any funds. In this article, we will explore what whitelisting and changing Celsius withdrawal addresses involves, why you should consider doing it right now and some hot tips and tricks. Here’s what we’ll explain:

  • What is whitelisting a withdrawal address? And what are they?
  • How do you whitelist withdrawal addresses in the Celsius web app and/or mobile app?
  • Hot tips and other common questions answered

What is a Withdrawal Address and How Do You ‘Whitelist’ Them in the Celsius App?

Celsius Network supports over 40+ crypto assets (including stablecoins). As soon as you register for an account and complete the KYC (Know Your Customer) process, you are free to deposit supported crypto assets immediately.

However, if you ever wanted to withdraw your assets, you must add or ‘whitelist’ withdrawal addresses first. You need to find your destination address (external wallet address) through the exchange, wallet or platform that you want assets sent to.

When you add or whitelist a withdrawal address in your Celsius app, that wallet is ‘locked’ for 24 hours. This means that you need to wait 24 hours before you can withdraw. For example, if you whitelist a withdrawal address for Bitcoin (BTC), you need to wait 24 hours before you can officially withdraw that BTC to your external wallet. Only your BTC wallet will be locked. No other Celsius wallets will be locked (assuming you don’t change or add any other whitelisted withdrawal addresses at the same time).

Please note: After the first time a withdrawal address is added, that specific wallet is locked for security reasons. This security feature was implemented in case someone got access to your wallet. Your withdrawal address will also get locked for 24 hours each time you change it. Once the 24 hour lock period is up, you can withdraw your coins as normal.

How do you Whitelist or Change Withdrawal Addresses?

Luckily, you can change and whitelist withdrawal addresses in both the Celsius web app (desktop) and mobile app. The process is a bit different as the two apps were not designed in tandem. We’ll explain both ways:

1 | Whitelisting Using Celsius Web App

After logging into your Celsius account using the desktop app, navigate to the top right hand corner and click on the drop-down (where your name is). From there, click on the ‘Security’ button as follows:

Next, scroll to ‘Your Wallets‘ section where it gives you the opportunity to ‘Manage Withdrawal Addresses‘ and ‘Add and edit currency addresses‘. There, you will see a list of all your crypto assets and the ability to ‘Add Address‘, ‘Change Address‘ and even add a ‘Nickname‘ for each wallet.

After adding or changing a withdrawal address, Celsius will send a confirmation email. You will need to click on the ‘Confirm Address’ button in order for the withdrawal address addition or change to come into effect. This is the most important and last step.

2 | Using the Celsius Mobile App to Whitelist Withdrawal Addresses

As mentioned, you can also use the sleek Celsius mobile app to whitelist or change all your withdrawal address. Navigate to the bottom right corner and click on the Celsius Logo to open the main menu. Then click on ‘Profile‘. Under ‘Security’, click on the button that reads “Change Whitelisted Addresses“. On the next screen, you will be able to view all your Celsius whitelisted addresses with the ability to ‘Add‘, ‘Change‘ (in a hard-to-read faint blue font color) and even ‘Add Label‘.

After adding or changing a withdrawal address, Celsius will send a confirmation email. You will need to click on the ‘Confirm Address’ button in order for the withdrawal address addition or change to come into effect. This is the most important and last step.

Withdrawal Address Tips & Tricks

What withdrawal addresses can I use? What networks are supported?

Native Blockchains. Please remember that Celsius only supports one (1) Native Blockchain for BOTH deposits and withdrawals. When you enter a withdrawal address, the Celsius platform DOES NOT recognize whether the correct network or blockchain is being used. It is your responsibility to double and triple-check. Please remember that some assets also require a Memo or Memo ID. Here are the supported Native Blockchains.

Can I add multiple withdrawal addresses for one asset?

NO. Unfortunately, Celsius only allows one (1) whitelisted withdrawal address per asset. Each time you change your withdrawal address, there is a 24 hour lock down period before you can withdraw. However, if you reuse a previously whitelisted address, there is no 24 hour lock period!

Can I add or change whitelisted withdrawal addresses while HODL Mode is on?

NO. Unfortunately, due to security, Celsius users are not able to change or add whitelisted withdrawal addresses while in HODL Mode. You must turn HODL Mode off in order to make withdrawal address modifications.

Can I withdraw assets as soon as I add a withdrawal address?

NO. The wallet that you added a whitelisted withdrawal address for will be locked for 24 hours after the modification. Therefore, plan accordingly. Please note that this 24 hour lock down does not affect all your Celsius wallets; only the wallet that you modified.

What’s the longest amount of time I need to wait before I can withdraw assets after adding withdrawal addresses?

It depends. If you have HODL Mode on, you cannot add or change whitelisted withdrawal addresses. Turning HODL Mode off takes 24 hours. Once off, you can modify your withdrawal addresses, and then wait 24 hours for your wallet to unlock. Therefore, the entire process can take up to 48 hours.

The transfer address of my external wallet/exchange keeps changing, why is that?

If your address keeps changing every time you make a transfer that means that your wallet provider is most likely using an HD (hierarchical deterministic) wallet, which changes transfer addresses after each use. Please confirm this with their customer support. In many cases, ‘old’ wallet addresses and Memo IDs are still useable.

How many times can I change my withdrawal address?

As many times as you like. But each time you change your whitelisted withdrawal address, your wallet will be locked for 24 hours. There are two exceptions though

Can I reuse a withdrawal address that was previously whitelisted?

ABSOLUTELY YES! And guess what? If you change a withdrawal address back to a previously used whitelisted address, there is no 24 hour lock! This also goes for previously used OTC addresses.

Why is there a 24 hour lock period?

Security. This security feature was implemented in case someone got access to your wallet.

If I add or change a whitelisted withdrawal address, is my entire Celsius wallet locked?

NO. Only the wallet that you modified the withdrawal address for will be locked for 24 hours. All other wallets (including withdrawals) and Celsius app features are NOT locked.

What happens if I don’t click on the confirmation button in the confirmation email?

Nothing. The withdrawal address that you’ve requested will not be added or updated if you fail to click on the confirmation button/link in the confirmation email. If you don’t receive the confirmation email, check your spam folder.

Can I modify multiple withdrawal addresses at once?

YES. The Celsius web app interface allows a user to add or modify whitelisted withdrawal addresses all at once. However, you will receive a confirmation email for EACH withdrawal address change and you need to click on each confirmation button to confirm.
